After finishing editing The Leavers, I reached a total of 50,000 words. Pretty impressive, yes, but terribly short for a fantasy novel--and especially for my goal of at LEAST 80,000 words (a decent-length book).
So after brainstorming where I could go from there, since the plot could have been wrapped up in those 50k, I came up with a new direction for the story and hopefully a much more exciting ending; taking what the character learned to overcome in the first part of the novel, and creating a situation where they can apply this to the newer, much more difficult problem with much higher stakes! With that inspiration I wrote a little over 3,000 words yesterday!! More than I have in quite a while, since I've been stuck on where to go for ages. If I do 3,000 per day, I'll reach my goal of an additional 30,000 in 10 days! Here's hoping.

Now to the hard part--adding more to the story, fleshing out the scenes where I just put in notes to do later. This is the part that should make the story go from a bit over 50k words to my goal of around 80k, if I'm not impatient about it!
